Our Gardens’ Wetland Margins: Plants for Wet Areas—Tuesday, November 10, at 11:30 a.m.

We hope you will join
the Garden Club of Weaverville
for our November 2026 Meeting

Our Gardens’ Wetland Margins: Plants for Wet Areas

In the Weaverville Community Center
(60 Lakeshore Drive, Albert Weaver Room)

Wetland margins are the transition zones in a landscape where water and land meet. And because they help to create a wider and more diverse area in a garden, they should be considered an opportunity rather than a problem for the home gardener.

Please join us as we welcome Greta Dietrich, founder of Woodswise Botanicals (a native plant nursery located in Mills River), to talk about how these wetland areas play such an important role in the overall ecology of landscapes. She will discuss how to go about finding these wet or moist areas in our gardens and then how these areas can be used to grow native shrubs and sedges that, in turn, attract the wildlife and insects that naturally gravitate to these beneficial habitats. She will also explain how to incorporate container wetlands in the garden when there is no water naturally occurring on site.

With more than 30 years of hands-on growing experience, Greta approaches gardening through an ecological lens as a collaborator with native plants to create and restore habitat. And at Woodswise Botanicals–which specializes in growing over 200 species of Southern Appalachian and Western North Carolina native trees, shrubs, perennials, and medicinal herbs–she frequently educates on the subject of native plant use and ecology by leading tours and facilitating conversations.

All are welcome to attend. Feel free to bring your own lunch, snack, or beverages to enjoy immediately following the program, if you’d like. The business meeting will begin soon thereafter.

The Garden Club of Weaverville is a co-ed, nonprofit organization open to everyone.
