September Meeting: Bringing the Love of Gardening Indoors with Houseplants (and a plant exchange)

The Garden Club of Weaverville

September 2023 Meeting

Tuesday, September 12, at 11:30 a.m.

(Please note the new time!)

Weaverville Community Center

60 Lakeshore Drive

Albert Weaver Room

*Feel free to bring a snack or lunch to eat during the program and meeting, if you wish.

Carrie Goforth, a local business owner and WNC native, is a lifelong plant enthusiast.  And although she has gardened outside for years, she now chooses to concentrate on gardening inside of her home with a collection of both common and rare houseplant specimens.

Carrie will share tips on ways to collect indoor plants, how to properly care for and fertilize them, how to use them in home décor, and how to propagate to help your indoor garden flourish. The presentation will include live plants for inspiration, a propagation demonstration, and a slideshow with example photos.

All are welcome to attend. A business meeting will immediately follow the program.

What to do to participate in the plant exchange:

  • Start potting up what you want to bring.
  • Be sure to label all plants with the plant name, the sun/shade requirements, and your last name (just in case someone has questions).
  • Leave the plants on the outside patio during the program (and don’t bring them inside the community center room).
  • Get excited about swapping plants with other gardeners during the exchange, which will take place after the program and meeting are concluded.

      • Each person with plants to share will briefly tell the group about what they have to share.
      • Please label plants if possible. If a cultivar, try to include the name of the variety. (Ex: Echinacea ‘Tomato Soup’)
      • Please don’t share plants on the Western NC Invasive plant list
      • Please go around the outside of the building to take your plants to the patio.
