Join us for a lively (click here ->) presentation by gardening educator and permaculture expert Laura Ruby, co-owner of The Ruby Roost, a learning center and retreat located
just outside of Marshall, NC. She also started and and manages YummyYards, an edible landscaping company. This year she joined the Roots Foundation, working with teachers and students in gardens of all varieties through Asheville City Schools.
She will discuss and illustrate the following topics and will answer your questions following her presentation:
- Getting started with herbs- selecting the right plant for the right place
- Learning the different types of herbs– culinary, medicinal, insect attracters, plant companions
- Preparing soil for herbs
- Harvesting your herbs: when and how
- Prepping herbs for storage
Laura’s passion for gardening began early on and continues to be an integral part of her life. Her love for gardening and sustainability increased when she earned her Permaculture Design Certificate in 2001. She continued to work on farms and her own garden, and soon after started working as the garden coordinator for the Garden to Table program, installing and working with 14 elementary school gardens in Boulder Valley School District. With permaculture as her backbone, she also co-facilitated and taught a Permaculture Design Certification course at The Farmette in Lyons, CO.
